1. What type of roof can a tubular skylight be installed on?

The Sun Glo solar tube can be installed virtually on any roof type and slope. Our residential models are available with either a flat roof or a pitched roof flashing. The unique slope of the pitched roof flashing allows for easy installation on all roof pitches without the need for angle adapters. Our models accommodate all roofing material including composite shingles, wood shakes, flat tile and S. tiles.

2. Can the tubular skylight be installed in any room?

Sun Glo solar tubes are perfect for any dark room in your home including the garage. We also have a full line of commercial units available for office buildings and warehouse applications.

3. How bright is the light from a tube skylight?

The Spectralume light pipe of Sun Glo Tubular Skylight has a super-reflective, mirror-like surface that has a reflectivity rate of 98%. Our models reflect light even when the sun's angle is low in the early morning or late afternoon. Our tubular skylights output the equivalent of 300 - 1,450 watts  of incandescent light depending on the model size:

10" tubular skylight = up to 200 sq. ft. (equivalent of up to 300 watts)

14" tubular skylight = up to 350 sq. ft. (equivalent of up to 500 watts)

18" tubular skylight = up to 550 sq. ft. (equivalent of up to 1,000 watts)

21" tubular skylight = up to 750 sq. ft. (equivalent of up to 1,450 watts)

4. Does the Tubular daylighting device work on a cloudy or rainy day?

Yes the light is outstanding on low lit days. The spectralume tubing along with the optifuse diffuser reflects well even in low light.

5. Can I install a tubular skylight myself? Is it difficult to install?

A homeowner can install our tubular skylights in about 2 hours or less. Installation requires basic do-it-yourself skills including using a reciprocating saw. Installation requires no wiring or structural changes to your home. Each kit comes with illustrated step-by-step instructions. Or you can use the video guide on this website.

8. What maintenance is needed?

Sun Glo solar tubes require no maintenance! Once properly installed, the unit is sealed from weather, dust, moisture and bugs.

9. Will the tubular skylight withstand extreme weather?

The rugged construction of materials used can withstand the harshest weather conditions. Only the dome and flashing are exposed on your roof. The dome is made of thick, heavy-duty acrylic that can withstand the impact of flying debris and the flashing is manufactured using heavy duty 24 gauge galvanized and will not leak.

10. What type of warranty does the tubular skylight have?

12. Can I turn off my tubular skylight during the day?

 Natural Light offers a magnetic plate for the 10" and 14"  units. This is perfect for any room that may need to be darkened during the day including bedrooms, media and conference rooms. The Mag Plate is easily installed as it magnetically attaches to the metal trim ring.

13. Is there a vent system available for bathrooms?

Yes, Sun Glo has designed an exhaust vent system available for the 10" model. It is perfect for bathrooms and laundry rooms. The vent kit has a stylish streamlined look. Read more about Vent Kits.

14. Can I use my tubular skylight at night?

Yes, Sun Glo has developed a light kit that is installed directly into the lower section of the light pipe and wiring to a wall switch. The light kit is available in 2 styles: single bulb (75 watts) and dual bulb (150 watts). Read more about Light Kits.

15. What materials are used to make tubular skylights?

Sun Glo Tube Skylights are manufactured using the only the highest quality components under the strictest control standards. The dome is made of high impact, thick acrylic. Our flashings are constructed of heavy 24 guage steel. Our light pipe is one of the best performing in the industry with a 98% reflectivity rate.
